Needlepoint
Needlepoint or Tapestry, is done in a variety of different ways: 1. Needlepoint done on a blank canvas. 2. Needlepoint on a canvas where the picture has been painted on the canvas, i.e. it is a question of covering a particular area of the canvas with the color wool or cotton as indicated. 3. Needlepoint on a 'trammed' canvas. This method is being used primarily in Europe. The picture is already covered with a series of horizontal lines of tapestry wool in the required color. The stitcher merely covers the 'trammed' line with continental stitches in the color as indicated by the 'tramming'. The result is that the stitches are more raised than they would be without the 'tramming'. At Needlemania, we concentrate on the first two systems described above. We carry 'painted' canvasses by the leading manufacturers: Tapex of Vienna, Margot, Rico, Royal Paris and Pegasus. For the stitchers who like to do the counted work, we carry designs by Drika's Charts, Jean McIntosh, Gitta's, Bab's Fuhrmann and Alice Godkin. For the supplies such as blank canvas and threads, please see our 'Fabrics and 'Threads' pages.
